This is a neoclassical armchair in the Louis XVI/Directoire style. Characteristic features include the sleek, rectangular back panel, the slender, slightly curved legs, the reddish-brown wooden frame, and the refined gilded piping along the upholstery. The design language is more restrained and straighter than the exuberant Rococo of Louis XV.
