Watelet Charles Joseph

Charles Joseph Watelet was a Belgian artist who was born in Beauraing in 1867 and who died in Brussels in 1954. He was a painter. Took some short training at the Academy in Brussels, led by Portaels and A. Stevens. After three months he returned to Marcinelle, where he earned his living as a portrait painter for ten years. Settled in Uccle in 1901. Realized portraits and especially female figures and nudes. Depicted the woman at balls, in the theater, in the salons, in restaurants, in the church, during joyful or less cheerful moments. His works exude delicacy and refinement. Also had success at the Paris Salons. Work in the Museums in Liège, Charleroi, Brussels, Ixelles, among others. Mentioned in BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. Source: Piron.
