Chine collé is a printing technique in which a thin, often colored sheet of paper (chine) is glued to a thicker background paper (collé) during the printing process, resulting in a two-part support for a print. This technique allows for the extraction of fine details from the printing plate and the addition of color and texture to a print, as the thin paper, traditionally from China or Japan, creates a delicate background. The thin sheet of paper is applied to the thicker paper with glue or the pressure of the press, creating a unique, layered print.
