Van Der Linden Art
Art Van Der Linden (sporadic pseudonym: ARTLINDE) was a Belgian artist who was born in Antwerp in 1925 and died there in 2014. He was a painter and sculptor. Education at the Academy in Mortsel (1940-1943), sculpture at the Academies in Berchem (1948-1953) and Antwerp (1955-1958), at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp (1958-1963). Worked there under the direction of Kreitz, Macken and Vaerten. The experience of his own time continuously leaves traces in his oeuvre. His works in stone or bronze have a narrative and often a committed content. From the press: 'His works like to treat people in their archetypal appearances. In doing so, he spans antiquity with his hierarchical form (cf. Archa chess game) and our time, in which he is particularly affected by the encapsulated and abused human beings. He does not treat this theme personally, but universally. Witnesses are numerous sandwichman creations. Many an image is therefore a silent protest against the dehumanization of standardized society. Bronzes such as 'De Beletterde', 'Das Militär', 'Abort contestante', 'Big Sandwichman', speak for themselves. As long as we do not realize sufficiently what changes are taking place in our own time, and still attach too much value to the tradition we have been given, we will hardly be able to understand the work of awake contemporaries. Art van der Linden teaches us to feel what is currently being achieved by an unconventional artist. His work, which is never stereotypical, is connected with the way of life of man in the late 20th century and with the pattern of civilization at the end of this century.” (RT) was represented at open-air exhibitions in the Middelheim in Antwerp, the Watersportbaan in Ghent, the Park in Sint-Niklaas, the Sculpture Biennale in Beerse, the Expo Artia in Kapellen (Antwerp). Works in national and foreign collections. Mentioned in BAS II and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (piron)
