Rhayé Yves
Yves Rhaye was a Belgian artist who was born in Ostend in 1936 and who died in 1995 in Okegem/Ninove. He was a painter, draftsman, printmaker, sculptor, sculptural ceramicist and designer of jewelery. Training in interior architecture at the Academy in Ghent (1955-1960), afterwards sculpting and painting under the direction of Robert Heylbroeck. Learned to work with clay in the Florizoone brickyard in Nieuwpoort and became a designer in a ceramic workshop in Beernem (1962). Became a member of the Cyanuric Group in 1960, also a member of Fantasy Magic. Creator of a world inhabited by strange creatures in drawings and paintings as well as in ceramic sculptures, in which vegetal, animal and anthropomorphic elements are connected or fused with each other. From the press: "Remarkable is his technique. In both the sculptures and the paintings, he scrapes away matter in order to discover, as it were, the underlying layers." (J. Verbrugghen, 1977).
