Wilmaers Georges

Georges Wilmaers was a Belgian artist active in the mid-twentieth century. He was a painter, watercolourist and draughtsman. He created landscapes, cityscapes, seascapes and scenes with figures. In 1944, he took part in the Salon Art Jeune in Brussels with works on the theme of "Mythological Subjects". He also painted portraits and, later on, nudes in yellow or red tones set against abstract backgrounds. In 1955, he participated in the exhibition "La Nativité dans l'Art Contemporain" in Brussels with the work The Birth of Christ, executed in wash. In 1958, he exhibited at the gallery Carrefour des Arts in Brussels, together with X. Allard. He was affiliated with Sabam in Brussels and was active in Schaerbeek. A bibliographic reference is Le peintre George Wilmaers, by Raymond Colleye and Georges Wilmaers (MEPI, 1944). According to an unverified source, he was born in 1900 and died in 1996. (Piron)
