Van Riet Willem

Willem (Guillaume) van Riet (Willem Jan), also called Willy van Riet, was a painter born in Antwerp in 1887 and died there in 1928. He was a realistic painter of portraits, flowers, still lifes, landscapes and allegorical scenes. He made an important series of etchings. He studied at the Antwerp Academy and the NHISKA (Julien De Vriendt). Prize Van Lerius and Nicaise De Keyser. Third Romeprijs (1913). He spends WWI in the Netherlands, then returns to Antwerp.
