Wante Paul

Paul Wante was a Belgian artist, born in Berchem/Antwerp in 1905 and passed away in Antwerp in 1981. He was a painter, pastelist, and sculptor. He was the son and pupil of his father, Ernest Wante. He trained at the Academy in Antwerp, where he studied under Jef Posenaer, engraver Van Der Vekenen, and sculptors J. Dupont, E. Geefs, and F. Huygelen.
He gained recognition for his religious works but also painted romantic genre scenes, impressionistic landscapes, and precise portraits. As a sculptor, he created busts and monuments. He was a teacher at the Academy in Berchem/Antwerp.
Religious works, including murals, by him can be seen in churches in Edegem, Leuven, and Borgerhout, as well as in monasteries. Stained glass windows designed by him are displayed in the Cathedral of Antwerp.
