Delhez Victor
Victor Delhez was a Belgian artist born in Antwerp in 1902 and died in Mendoza/Argentina in 1985. He was a wood engraver, architect and illustrator. After his education at the Academy in Antwerp, he went to Bolivia to work there and settled in Argentina in 1925. There he became a teacher at the Institute of Fine Arts of the University of Cuyo in Mendoza. From the very beginning, even before his departure from Antwerp, he showed a lively interest in all human mental problems and in all aesthetic currents. He cut about a hundred abstract compositions, which he himself called Bagatellen. His commitment as an artist is apparent from themes such as 'The Four Gospels', 'The Apocalypse', 'Dance of Death' and 'Les Fleurs du mal'. His impressive suites: Studies without support, Stones, Architects and Nostalgia belong to the world of magical fantasy. Victor Delhez is listed in BAS II and Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists. (piron)
