Dooms Vic

Vic Dooms, or Victor Dooms, was a Belgian artist born in Sint-Martens-Latem in 1912 and died in Ghent in 1994. He was a painter. Working professionally in Vilvoorde where he attended classes at the Portaelsschool from 1932 to 1939 under direction of Joseph Bouüaert and Jules Brouwers. Settled back in Sint-Martens-Latem in 1939. Realized landscapes, harbor views, interiors, still lifes, flowers and portraits. Lyrical, contemplative and intimist painter. Was not a flamboyant personality and preferred the intimate of the homely and the tranquility of the untouched Slate Nature. Was clearly inspired by stillness and introspection. Labeled himself as a tonalist, someone who revived the mostly unnoticed environment or banal worn objects through unparalleled colors and poetry. Work in the Museum in Ghent. Mentioned in BAS I and Two Centuries Signatures of Belgian Artists. (PIRON)
