Veris Renaat
Renaat Veris (René) is a Belgian artist who was born in Noorderwijk/Herentals in 1940. He was a painter, draftsman, watercolourist, pastellist and graphic artist. He received his education at the Academy in Antwerp under the direction of G.C. De Bruyne and René De Coninck, in 1962 at the Higher Institute in Antwerp under the direction of Jos Hendrickx. He created landscapes, forest scenes, trees, animal compositions, (self)portraits, still lifes and symbolic representations. Poetic-intimistic touch. His works exude tenderness, feeling and symbolism. From the press: 'His portraits have an extreme classical beauty, without possessing even a hint of artificiality. This also applies to the other subjects, and in the still life he knows how to evoke a refined poetic atmosphere. Veris' art is a pure and tranquil art, but unusually refined' and 'Vernis is a painter, perhaps even more so a draftsman with a predilection for pastel. He really excels in that. He works with a dot and dash technique that is extremely suitable for evoking autumnal or snowy effects.' To a certain extent, his oeuvre can be seen as a somewhat melancholic indictment of the lost contact between man and nature, life and meaning. He was a teacher at the Vespertekenschool de Herenthout and a teacher of watercolour and pastel at the Academy in Sint-Niklaas. Award for engraving art from the province of Antwerp in 1974. Mentioned in BAS I and Two centuries of signatures by Belgian artists. (Piron)
