Verbeeck Paul

Paul Verbeeck was a Belgian artist born in Wimmertingen in 1937 and died in Hoogstraten in 2021. He was a sculptor, watercolorist and caricaturist. He was one of the founders, together with Leon Doms, Paul De Buck and Jos Adams, of the Institute for Creative Education in Hoogstraten and led the sculpture department there for thirty years until 1995. He worked in white stone, bluestone and white marble. Monuments by his hand can be found in Minderhout (De Papboer, a bas-relief) and Hoogstraten (Volksdans, 1976). He later also worked as a watercolor painter and realized landscapes from France, Italy and his own region, Hoogstraten. In 2012 there was a retrospective exhibition of his work in the Begijnhof.
