Vanderkelen Auguste

Auguste Vanderkelen was a Belgian artist, born in 1915 and died in Huldenberg in 1991. He was a painter, pastellist and draftsman. He trained at the Academy in Brussels under the guidance of H. Van Halen, A. Bastien and F. Baes (+/- 1930-1938). In 1934 he won the First Prize for Painting from Nature. That same year he exhibited at the Center for Fine Arts in Brussels. After the Second World War he made a living from his work as a portrait painter. He used oil, pastel, red chalk and charcoal. From 1957 to 1958 he worked as an illustrator for the chromos published by Historia Editions. He illustrated, among other things, the ten volumes of European Heritage (1964-1975). Due to illness he had to interrupt his career as an artist in 1975. (Piron, BT)
