Van Sluys Remi

Remi Van Sluys was a Belgian painter, born in Berchem in 1907 and deceased in Antwerp in 1994. He studied under Frans Mortelmans, Floris Jespers, J. Posenaer and J. Creytens in Antwerp, and under G. Reusens in Mechelen. He created figures, portraits, still lifes, church interiors, (Antwerp) harbour and city views, views of the Scheldt and floral compositions. Despite a luxuriant colour palette, he managed to instil an intimate atmosphere in his works. From the press: "The canvases are full, rich and grand. Baroque. All motifs are present, such as dolls, sculptures, fruits, flowers and animals. And yet they are governed by strict proportions in the composition."
