van Rijn Nico
Nico (Nicolaas Petrus Quirinus) van Rijn was a Dutch painter. He was born in Hilversum on July 18, 1887, and died in Blaricum on December 8, 1962. Nico van Rijn studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague (1911-1913). The work of the Gooi painter Nico van Rijn initially showed a strong affinity with the Impressionism of the Hague School. This changed in 1914, when he moved to the Gooi region. There, the artist came into contact with Luminists and Post-Impressionists such as Ferdinand H. Nibbrig, W. Singer, and C. Breman. With bright, turbulent brushstrokes, smudges, and streaks, Van Rijn captured the reality of landscapes and still lifes.
