Van Offel Constant (Stan)
Constant (Stan) Van Offel, was a Belgian artist, born in Antwerp in 1885 and died in Brussels in 1924. He was a painter, draftsman, illustrator and graphic artist. Edmond Van Offel was his brother. Stan Van Offel was self-taught (as far as plastic arts are concerned). His first exhibition was a series of caricatures and folk scenes at the Scalden in Antwerp in 1906. He settled in Brussels in 1907. From 1914 to 1919 he stayed in London and in 1920 he stayed in Paris. He contributed to the yearbooks of the Scalden, the Christmas issues of La Métropole and magazines such as Nos Loisirs and Fantasio. He is mentioned in BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. His book Alphabet macabre was published posthumously in 1925. (Piron, BT)
