Van Middel Maurice
Maurice Van Middel was a Belgian artist born in Bruges in 1886 and died around 1950. He was a painter and draftsman. Around 1900 he studied at the Academy in Bruges under the direction of Ed. Van Hove. He was a classmate of Permeke and van Sassenbrouck, among others. Was very modest and worked in silence. Exhibited for the first time in the Kunstzaal Memlinc in Bruges in 1931. Found his inspiration in the Bruges beguinage, among other things, and had a distinct preference for sturdy trees. He also painted Bruges cityscapes, figures of, for example, lacemakers, portraits and seascapes. Worked professionally as a gold embroiderer. Mentioned in the Lexicon of West Flemish Visual Artists, part 6. (Piron)
