Corneille (Cornelis) Van Leemputten was a Belgian painter, born in Werchter in 1841 and died in Schaerbeek in 1902. He was the son of Jean François and the brother of Frans Van Leemputten. He was educated at the Academy in Antwerp. He mainly painted landscapes with sheep. He worked a lot in Brabant and in the Kempen. His poetic, vast landscapes are related to the French painter Ch. Jacques. At times he collaborated with David Col. Work by Corneille van Leemputten can be found in the museums in Antwerp and Brussels. He is mentioned in BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (Piron)
