Van Droogenbroeck Leo

Leo (Leon) Van Droogenbroeck was a Belgian artist, born in Antwerp in 1905 and died in Sint-Joost-ten-Node in 1995. He was a painter and sculptor. For about four years, he led the life of a seaman. He studied at the Academy in Brussels under the guidance of A. Bastien and was influenced by the School of Auderghem. He created landscapes, harbour and river views, still lifes, flowers, and figure compositions. He also found inspiration in Great Britain and France. His style bore an impressionistic touch, and some works showed affinities with pointillism. He settled in Crupet. He exhibited at the La Meuse gallery in Namur in 1955, 1956, 1957 and 1958, at the Quinzaine des Artistes Namurois in Namur in 1959, at the Maison d’Art in Charleroi in 1959, and again at La Meuse in Namur in 1960 and 1963. He was awarded the Grand Prize for Painting of the City of Brussels in 1962. He is listed in Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists (Piron).
