Van De Vloet Charles

Charles Van De Vloet (Lier, 1914-2000). Painter, draftsman. Trained at the Academy in Lier and the Higher Institute in Antwerp. Debuted with urban landscapes, still lifes, and portraits in a naturalistic manner, yet often with a poetic atmosphere. In the mid-1950s, he experienced a brief abstract period which, however, led to the development of his own style, in which verticality was particularly noticeable, for example in compositions with elongated figures. From around 1970, he returned more or less to his original manner of painting. The landscapes became romantic yet naturalistic again, the portraits and figures more intimate, and the element of light once again played an important role in the still lifes. Exhibited, among others, in the C.A.W. Hall in Antwerp in 1961. (Piron)
