Van Cauter Marcel
Marcel Van Cauter was a Belgian artist, born in Schaarbeek in 1919. He was a painter, draftsman and watercolorist. He was educated at the Academy in Brussels, under the direction of H. Van Haelen (1936-1940). He received further training from A. Philippot (1941-1944). Later he befriended A. Pinot, who taught him the technique of watercolor painting. He realized picturesque Brussels corners and faces, landscapes, figures and portraits. From the press: “M.V.C. is pre-eminently the painter of light, which he can make shine with great artistic sense” and “His art comes across as an oasis of peace.” Marcel Van Cauter is mentioned in BAS II and Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists.
