Herregodts Urbain

Urbain Herregodts was a Belgian artist who was born in 1935 in Edegem and who died in 1986 in La Louvière. He was a painter, sculptor, draftsman and graphic designer. Completed printer training. Self-taught in the visual arts. Hainaut Prize in 1970, Jeune Peinture Belge Prize in 1971. He became acquainted with the surrealist painters and writers, who would have a major influence on his further work. Lyrically abstract design, creator of a wriggling world of smooth, twisting, intertwined shapes. From 1966 he took part in the activities of the Group Phases and contributed to the magazine Edda. Illustrated, among others, L'Agenda d'Emeraude by A. Chavée (1968)/. Work in the Museums in Mons and La Louvière, in the collections of the Belgian State and the Gemeentekrediet.
