Timmermans Tonet

Tonet (Antonia) Timmermans was a Belgian artist, born in Lier in 1926 and died in Bruges in 2020. She spent a long time in South Africa before settling in Ostend. She painted South African landscapes with a paradisiacal atmosphere, summer and winter views of Lier, imaginary and fantastical scenes, castles, Zwin landscapes, flower pieces and portraits. From the press: “Naïve, friendly art that gives the viewer back a smile and evokes nostalgia for the summer fair and the winter holidays of his youth.” In 2006 she exhibited at the Timmermans-Opsomer House in Lier. Together with her sister Lia, she shared a house in Ostend. She is mentioned in the Lexicon of West Flemish Artists VI, BAS II and Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists (Piron, BT).
