Grafische kunstwerken van de Belgische kunstenaar Freddy Theys

Theys Freddy

Freddy Theys is a Belgian artist, born in Hoboken in 1937. He is a graphic artist, draftsman and etcher. He received his education at the Academy in Antwerp. He was a student of R. Cornelissen, J. Van Ael, C. De Roover and J. Joris. He realized (Antwerp) cityscapes, landscapes and portraits. He finds his subjects in his own region, but also in Scotland. He used a refined graphic design, with a sense of detail. His works exude peace, feeling, poetry and love for architecture and nature. He received several awards, including the triennial Prize for Graphics, awarded by the Royal Academy of Sciences, Letters and Fine Arts of Belgium, in 1977. From the press: “The subjects that Freddy Theys like best tend towards the melancholic. This matches his dreamy nature. He identifies with the desolation of the barren Scottish highlands and islands, which he revisits repeatedly. And, when he has absorbed that great loneliness through his meticulous drawings, he etches or engraves an inspired plate with an eternal message in a contemporary representation” (Flanders, Kunsttijdschrift, 1977, Volume 26, p. 379). We find his work in the Print Rooms in Brussels and Antwerp. Professionally, Freddy Theys was a technical electronics engineer. He is mentioned in BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (Piron, BT)
