Tahon Georges
Georges Tahon was a Belgian artist, born in Veurne in 1929 and died in Veurne in 2003. He was a painter, engraver, watercolorist, pen artist and sculptor. He realized cityscapes from Veurne and landscapes from the surrounding area. In 1971 he had his first exhibition in the Oude Vleeshalle in Veurne. This exhibition was a great success and marked the beginning of a long-standing tradition. From the press: “As a local painter par excellence, he has a predilection for folklore. His folk scenes such as fairs, processions and old customs are highly appreciated. For several years now he has focused in particular on painting landscapes from the Westhoek, and his watercolors in particular are attracting more and more attention.” (1980). Tahon also created designs for wedding and birth announcements, posters, cards and book illustrations. He was a contemporary of Verschingel, Van Gucht, Trebla and Delvaux. It was they who encouraged him to continue with his own style, characterized by the use of lines and specific colours. Georges Tahon is listed in the Lexicon of West Flemish visual artists v. (Piron, BT)
