Wallet Taf

Taf Wallet was a Belgian artist who was born in 1902 in La Louvière and who died in 2001 in Schaerbeek. He was a painter, designer of mosaics and stained glass windows. First studied wood and marble at the Nijverheidsschool in La Louvière (1916-1917), further training at the Academy in Mons under the direction of A. Duriau and E. Motte (1920-1926). Settled in Schaarbeek in 1923. In 1928 Godecharle Prize and third entry at the Prix de Rome. Realized clear and boldly laid landscapes, beach scenes, seascapes, still lifes, initially in realistic design, after the Second World War in a more impressionistic way with an Ensorian slant. Afterwards he paid more attention to the composition, the styling and the structure of his subjects. His works reflect poetry, zest for life and optimism. In 1933 he acquired a property in Sint-Idesbald, where he would later settle. Stayed in France and Italy (1928-1930). Became an etching teacher in 1947, and landscape painting teacher in 1951 at the Higher Institute in Antwerp. Was co-founder of the Nervia Group and of the Association of Belgian Marine Painters, member of Le Bon Vouloir, Les Amis de l'Art and Les Amis du Hainaut. Work in the Museums in Brussels, La Louvière, Antwerp, Ghent, Liège, Mons, Tournai, Namur. Mentioned in the Lexicon of West Flemish visual artists V and BAS I. Source: Piron
