
Schotte Monique
Monique Schotte is a Belgian graphic artist, born in Bruges in 1950. She studied plastic arts at the Institute of the Holy Family in Bruges (1967-1969), graphics at Sint-Lucas in Ghent, under the guidance of Arno Brys; and at the National Higher Institute in Antwerp under the supervision of R. Slabbinck (1973-1976). She became a teacher of intaglio printing and applied graphics at the Academies in Merksem and Maldegem. She abstracts everyday reality. The artist: “My work focuses on the human being, his appearance, but especially his psychological functioning. I try to express the fullness and complexity of life both in images and in content. I view the anecdote as a condensation of reality, as the intersection of major themes. Graphically I use a relatively baroque language. I allow myself to use and experiment with many techniques." She was a member of the Mei 68 Group. Works by Monique Schotte were purchased by the State in 1974/1975 and 1976/1977. She is listed in the Lexicon of West Flemish visual artists ii. (Piron)
