Nikolska Scarlet

Scarlet Nikolska is a Czech artist who was born in 1949 in Ostrava in the Czech Republic. She is a painter. She graduated from the art academy in Prague in 1974 and went out into the wide world to exhibit her work. Her subjects were inspired by Jewish rituals and traditions, and the vanished ghetto life of Eastern Europe—particularly memories of scenes encountered in Prague, Krakow and Budapest—while her strong coloristic aesthetic bore a kinship to 20th-century Jewish masters such as Mané. - Katz and Josef Herman, and the Belgian expressionist, Constant Permeke. She has organized exhibitions in, among others, the Ben Uri Gallery in London, Center Rachi in Paris, Contrapunto in Rio de Janeiro, Galerie Prisma in Vienna and Circolo Artistico in Bologna. Nikolska lives and works in Paris and Prague.
