Roman Alphonse
Alphonse Roman was a Belgian painter, born in Brussels in 1872 and died in Ixelles/Brussels in 1943. He studied at the Academy in Brussels. He created still lifes, landscapes, and park and forest scenes. Between 1920 and 1930, he participated in various exhibitions in Mechelen, Ghent and Antwerp, and between 1930 and 1943 in the exhibitions of the Cercle Artistique de Bruxelles. He exhibited, among others, at the Salon Triennal d’Anvers in 1926 and at the Ghent Salon in 1933 (with the work The Ponds of the Red Monastery). He also held solo exhibitions, including one in Brussels in 1943. He worked for some time in Mechelen. His work can be found in the museums of Antwerp, Ghent and Mechelen. He is listed in Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists (Piron).
