Malfliet Romain

Romain Malfliet was a Belgian artist who was born in 1910 in Sint-Niklaas-Waas and died in Sint-Niklaas-Waas in 2006. He was a painter, watercolorist, and above all an etcher. Training at the Academy in Sint-Niklaas, at the Academy in Ghent, at the Higher Institute in Antwerp. Pupil of J. De Bruycker, W. Vaes and Is. Opsomer. Realized landscapes and cityscapes. Preferably found his inspiration in the Waasland and in Antwerp. Was a member of the Kringen Pictura and the Koninklijke Wase Kunstkring. In 1979 a tribute book Romain Malfliet en het Land van Waas was published, depicting nearly three hundred of his etchings and texts by W. Melis and W. Persoon. Was teacher graphics at the Academy in Sint-Niklaas (1951-1975) and teacher at the Academies in Temse and Hemiksem. Tribute exhibition in Sint-Niklaas in 1990 on the occasion of his 80th birthday. Work in the Museums in Sint-Niklaas, Brussels, Antwerp, Dendermonde, Temse. Mentioned in BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists.
