Kunstwerken kopen van de Belgische kunstenaar Roland Devolder

Devolder Roland

Roland Devolder is a Belgian artist born in Ostend in 1938. He is a painter, graphic artist, draftsman, watercolorist and sculptor. He was educated at the Academy in Ghent (1956-1962). His works bear witness to a poetic slant in which the loneliness of the depicted figures is fascinating. From the press: 'Extensive pictorial and graphic oeuvre in the atmosphere of magical realism; his works are populated with typical, wide-eyed, somewhat otherworldly figures: frail girls, women, elders, fantasy creatures…' and 'His works portray characters of all ages, with dreamy or dazed, wide-open eyes. They seem to be waiting for something or amuse themselves with rather pointless games: they juggle, they bully a farmer, they walk on wires or build a castle of cards. They seem out of this world and are disturbing. Calm, subdued colors still contribute to the atmosphere of enigmatic mystery that emanates from the figures and objects.' (after Dictionnaire des artistes belges, Renaissance du Livre publishers). He exhibited, among other things, with Les Arts en Europe in Brussels in 1973, in the Museum of Fine Arts in Ostend in 2001. His work can be found in the collection of the Royal Court of Belgium, in the Print Room and in the Palace of Fine Arts in Brussels, in the Museum in Ostend. He was a teacher at the Academy in Ostend (1975-1995). He is listed in the Lexicon of West Flemish visual artists iii, BAS I,II and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (piron)
