Belgische kunstenaar Robert De Man

De Man Robert

Robert De Man (Jr) was a Belgian artist born in Roeselare in 1949 and died in Oostkamp in 2016. He was a painter, draftsman and crayon painter. He was the son and student of André De Man. He studied at the Academy in Bruges and at St Lucas in Ghent. He is known for his expressionist design. He had a preference for landscapes, mother and child themes, religious subjects, indoor scenes, genre scenes and figures. His typical female figures are silent, dreamy girls and women. His male figures are decrepit, shabby farmers and folk people who seem to have grown together with the land on which they work. He presents them in schematic design, with vast hands, giving their social compassion a monumental expression. (PIRON)
