Hamblok Rik
Rik Hamblok was a Belgian artist who was born in Lommel in 1923 and who died there in 2004. He was a painter, draftsman and graphic artist. Initially painted portraits, expressive landscapes and compositions. Came in contact with the Russian N. Grospoder in 1944 and evolved towards warm abstraction from about 1950. From 1946 to 1973, he worked professionally as a factory worker at Vieille Montagne in Balen-Wezel, but then opted for a full-time career as a painter. From the press: 'His oeuvre starts from an emotion guided by the mind. His abstraction explores deeper truths, in harmony with one's own inner temperament. His work holds the viewer's attention. Simple and condensed, it slowly reveals its mystery.” (H. Brutin, 1998). The municipality of Lommel awarded him travel grants for Paris (1956) and the South of France (1959). Was a member of the Circle Heikracht in Neerpelt and of Asikan International Art Group, an art group with artists from the United States, Mexico, the Netherlands and Belgium. Work in the collection of the cities of Lüdenscheid and Lommel, the province of Limburg, Public Art Property in Flanders. (piron)
