Van De Sande René

René Van De Sande was a Belgian artist, born in Everbecq/Tournai in 1889 and died in Anderlecht in 1946. He was a painter, draftsman and etcher. He attended evening courses at the Academy in Anderlecht. During the First World War, he recorded the suffering of his fellow man in countless sketches. In 1918 he worked as an illustrator on the first illustrated guide to Brussels and its surroundings. He realized landscapes and cityscapes, among other things. He sketched and drew almost every corner of old Brussels. He worked professionally at the archives service in Brussels, under the direction of Desmarez. Together they founded the Museum of the Broodhuis. After his retirement, in 1938, he focused more on nature in Brabant. He focused more on painting landscapes and thus ended up in the painting group of Pede, which also included J. Brusselmans, F. Baes, A. Courtens, M. Langaskens and Max Stevens. René Van De Sande is listed in BAS I and Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists. (piron)
