Schilderijen van Prosper De Wit

de Wit Prosper

Prosper de Wit, or simply Pros, was a Belgian painter born in Antwerp in 1860 and died in Schaerbeek in 1947 (Prosper Joseph Pierre de Wit). He studied at the Academy in Antwerp under the supervision of H. De Braekeleer. He had a preference for interiors, landscapes and cityscapes. He assigned an important role to shades of color and light and painted poetic, atmospheric canvases. His work from the 1980s is characterized by a fairly pasty paint treatment coupled with the use of deep, saturated colors. Those colors have as little to do with reality as those of the first Fauvists. Was in 1883 co-founder of the Circle "Als ik kan" in Antwerp. Work among others in the Museums in Antwerp, Liège. Listed in BAS I. (PIRON)
