De Troyer Prosper

Prosper De Troyer was a Belgian artist born in 1880 and died in 1961. He was a painter, draftsman and graphic artist. He has attended Sint-Lucas in Oostakker and at the Academy of Mechelen. He was first influenced by Laermans and Jakob Smits, later by the futurists. Assimilized initially neo-impressionism, then fauvism and cubism. From about 1920 he painted abstract under the influence of cubism and futurism and started to present the reality in a geometric manner and also briefly focused on the abstracting direction of the Plastique Pure, but in 1922 he resolutely returned to figurative design, especially to expressionism. With themes such as the mother, child, human, landscape and religiously inspired work, he also evolved into an expressionism with more forms and contrasting colors. Work among others in the Museums in Brussels, Antwerp. Listed in BAS I and III. (PIRON)
