Roobjee Pjeroo
Pjeroo Roobjee, pseudonym of Dirk De Vilder, is a Belgian artist who was born in 1945 in Ghent. He is a painter, graphic artist and author. Education at the Academies in Ghent and Amsterdam (1960-1964). Feels good on the margins of the art world. He is active in several areas: actions, various publications (poetry, prose, designs), painting and engraving in a deliberately aggressive style that is not devoid of humor, both in terms of colors and content. His muse is contemporary mythology: violence, consumption, eroticism. From the press: "His paintings have deliberately very large sizes" so that at least they don't fit above the Flemish buffet". They reflect signs, figures, symbols; slaughterhouses full of torment and damnation. They evoke a multi-layered, magical world.” Mentioned at the Young Belgian Painters Award in 1967 and 1969. He made his debut as an author in 1966 with "De Nachtschrijver". Represented Belgium at the 1971 Sao Paulo Biennale, together with De Keyzer, Elias, Persoons and Raveel. Received the Ark Prize of the Free Word in 1998. Work in the Museums in Brussels and Ostend. Mentioned in BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists.
