Piet Volckaert was a Belgian artist born in 1902 in Saint-Gilles/Brussels and died in 1973 in Laken/Brussels. He was a painter and draftsman. Education at the Academy in Sint-Gillis/Brussels, conducted by F. Gailliard. Painter of old Brussels corners and streets, canal views, landscapes, forest views from the area around the Red Monastery, portraits. Powerful, spontaneous lines, muted color palette. Was friends with D. Haine. Was called the Brussels Utrillo by Alain Viray. Mentioned in Bas I and Two Centuries Signatures of Belgian Artists. (PIRON)
