Kunstwerken van de Belgische kunstenaar Piet Bekaert

Bekaert Piet

Piet Bekaert was a Belgian artist who was born in 1939 in Vichte and who died in 2000 in Sint-Martens-Latem. He was a painter, draftsman, designer, sculptor, photographer and poet. Education at Sint-Lucas and the Academy in Ghent, at the Académie Julian in Paris, at the Pratt Institute in New York. He was inspired by verandas, still lifes, plant parties. His works, usually in large format, reflect an intimate atmosphere, always seem poetic and often are referred to happiness. Worked in highly diluted oil paint to achieve a blending color effect in the works. Debuted constructivistic and evolved into figuration in the 1970s. From the press: “The still lifes of PB, almost strictly classical orchestrated, but painted with a wing-like hand, captured in an impressionistic light, clearly translate the dream of a sensitive controlled nature: the search for infinity that can only be found in pure beauty." The artist describes his work as "poetic realism with a romantic slant". Mentioned in BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. Source: Piron
