Colfs Peter

Peter Colfs is a Belgian artist who was born in Anwerpen in 1906 and also died there in 1983. He was a painter and designer of carpets. Training at the Academy and the Higher Institute in Antwerp under the direction of Is. Opsomer (1923-1931). Godecharle Prize in 1931, Prix de Rome in 1933. Realized portraits, (allegorical) figures, landscapes, village and city views, beach views, flowers and still lifes. Neo-Impressionist design. From the press: "He first sketches roughly and then puts it on canvas. Beach sails and still lifes - especially flower arrangements against a strikingly colored background - are his favorite subjects. He immortalizes his love for men and for nature in bright, sun-drenched scenes." Belgium donated its" largest carpet in the world" (13.20 m by 8.65 m) to the United Nations in 1959. He also gained international fame for his murals for packet boats and his panel paintings for various world exhibitions. Became a teacher at the Higher Institute in Antwerp in 1936.
