Remarks: Pietro Aretino (1492-1556) was infamous for his erotic literature (Sonetti Lussuriosi) and satires. In 1524, Giulio Romano drew his 16 estates and had them engraved. In 1527 the first combined work of Aretino and Romano was published. In 1904, the sonnets were published in Paris in memory of the legendary publisher and bibliophile Isidore Liseux, an ex-Jesuit. The colored engravings were made based on the drawings of the French artist Paul Avril (and not those of Jules Romain as one can sometimes find, Dutel, 809).

The folder shown with the photos is not included (last picture), it shows which work/version these engravings come from.
