FRANS LEYTENS (Mortsel 1901-Antwerp 1980), collector, Antwerp. Print. Frans Leytens had a library on Flemish and Dutch literature, the volumes of which bore one of his ex-libris. As an author, Leytens wrote the introduction to the book Het Vlaamse ex-libris (Antwerp 1947) and contributed to two issues of the review Le Livre et l'Estampe: 'Justice pour Henri de Brakeleer' (XVI, 1970, no. 63 / 64, pp. 203-213), 'Note on a print by Johan Barthold Jongkind' (XX, 1974, no 79/80, pp. 183-184). Frans Leytens collected old and modern medals and prints mainly from the Northern Schools. He brought together tests by Wierix, Crispijn van de Passe, Peter Paul Rubens, Henri Leys, Henri de Brakeleer, Jan Toorop, Anders Zorn or Edvard Munch. His stamp can still be found on prints of the French School (Pierre Paul Prud'hon, Charles Meryon, Aristide Maillol) or English (Francis Seymour-Hayden, William Nicholson).
