Rotsaert Octave

Octave Rotsaert was a Belgian artist who was born in Bruges in 1885 and who died there in 1964 . He was a sculptor, draftsman and painter. Education at the Academy in Bruges and at the National Higher Institute in Antwerp. Stayed in the abbey at Maredsous in 1914 with a pupil and was impressed by the monastic life. Traveled to Paris after World War I. Designer of, among other things, religious work (statues of saints and apostles, monks, madonnas), compositions with figures, busts, (child) portraits, figures. Various statues in Bruges, including the Pax statue (1924), bronze buffalo at the Canada Bridge, the statue of King Albert I near the station. Realized as a draftsman and painter, among other things, landscapes and portraits. Was a teacher at the Academy in Bruges from 1932 to 1950.
