Molenkamp Nico

Nico Molenkamp was a Dutch artist who was born in Enschede in 1920 and died in Tilburg in 1998. He was a painter and draftsman. He trained at the predecessor of the Tilburg Academy of Visual Arts and then went to the National Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp from 1949 to 1953. After his training in figure painting in Antwerp, he returned to Tilburg, where he became a free painting teacher at the Academy of Visual Arts until 1982. He mainly painted abstract animal and human figures and was inspired by circus, theater and fair. He often used striking, tonal color combinations, which sometimes give a sculptural appearance.
