De Keyser Nicaise

Nicaise De Keyser was a Belgian artist who was born in Zandvliet in 1813 and who died in Antwerp in 1887. He was a painter and draftsman. Training at the Academy in Antwerp under the direction of Jos Jacobs and M. Van Brée. Made a study trip to Italy. Romantic classicist. Quickly acquired great fame. Together with G. Wappers, his rival, he was one of the leading figures of Belgian Romanticism. Realized portraits, historical and religious compositions, domestic scenes, murals.
