Túry Mária

Mária Túry was a Hungarian artist born in 1930 in Szeged/Hungary and died in 1992 in Budapest/Hungary. She was a painter and graphic artist. She studied at the College of Fine Arts in Budapest from 1948 to 1953 as a student of István Szőnyi and Endre Domanovszky. She has made several study trips throughout Europe, the United States and Egypt. From 1953 she took part in individual (Fényes Adolf Hall, Hódmezővásárhely) and group exhibitions (Műcsarnok). Her work has been awarded several times: she was a former Derkovits Scholar, received the title of Meritorious Artist, received the Munkácsy Prize in Hungary twice. Many of her works can therefore be found in public buildings in Hungary. But she was also recognized abroad. With her works she took part in the Biennales of Paris, Venice and Nuremberg. Together with her husband, the artist György Kádár (1912-2002), she worked on a panel in the Hungarian pavilion for the Expo ’58 World Exhibition and received the Diplome d’Honneur in Belgium for it. From 1953 she taught for two years at the University of Applied Arts in Budapest. (BT)
