Moreau Henry
Henry Moreau was a Belgian artist, born in Mons in 1869 and deceased in Mons in 1943. He created female figures, nudes, portraits, genre scenes, and flowers. He had a particular interest in the play of light and shadow in his work. He exhibited for the first time in Antwerp in 1892. He subsequently exhibited at major salons: at the Triennial in 1909, at the Exposition Universelle et Internationale de Bruxelles in 1910, in Wiesbaden in 1913, in Brussels in 1918, and in 1928 in the “Oor” gallery in Antwerp. From the press: “If Henry Moreau is the painter of feminine beauty. Then dancers, nudes, déshabillés are his principal subjects. He finishes his canvases with an unmatched craftsmanship that is somewhat reminiscent of ’t Felt. The refinement of his subjects reveals a sensitivity that leaves no means unused in order to make a striking impression on the imagination.” (1928) His work can be found, among others, in the museum in Tournai, where Young Woman with Mirror is held (Piron).
