van de Kerkhove Monique

Monique van de Kerkhove is a Belgian artist born in Zwevegem in 1937. She is a painter who only debuted in 1977. She was a student of Marthe De Spiegeleir. Mainly paints refined, poetic flower arrangements, sporadically also a landscape or farm view. From the press: “Flowers are clearly her main source of inspiration, she is always fascinated by them and she always succeeds in crystallizing an honest disclosure of her experiences in her work (…). The atmosphere is convincingly reproduced with simple domestic scenes, in which own conception is an indisputable mark. Thanks to the strong brushwork, the impeccable choice of colors and the artificial contrasts of light and shadow, the harmonic design is achieved” (1981) and “M.V.D.K. develops in her painting as a painter who is mainly attracted by still lifes with flowers, and has now created a very extensive oeuvre.” Was a delegate of the Association for European Art Services. Participated in the Art Festivals in the Casino in Koksijde in 19981, 1982 and 1983. In 1980 she received a gold medal from the European Art Service (EKV) and silver medals in 1982 and 1983. Employed in Kuurne. In 1992 opened her own Art Gallery Atlantis on the Zeedijk in Middelkerke. Bibliography: Meeting with 72 artists (Edition Sint-Lucaskring, Waregem, 1981). Monograph by Remi De Cnodder (Published by Oranjehuis, Antwerp 1986). Mentioned in Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. Source: Piron
