Meiresonne Octaaf
Octaaf Meiresonne was a Belgian artist, born in Ghent in 1929 and died in Sint-Martens-Latem in 2013. He was a pastellist, painter, ceramist, and sculptor. He studied decorative arts, decoration, drawing, and painting at the Academy in Ghent. In 1950, he received the gold medal from the city of Ghent. He debuted with folk types and atmospheric images of city life, occasionally delving into expressionism, symbolism, and surrealism. From the press: "You could describe O.M. as a genre painter who holds intimacy and symbolism in high regard. Additionally, he is a respected landscape painter and a sublime portraitist." (1998) He was a teacher at the Drawing and Painting School in Sint-Martens-Latem. He exhibited at Galerie Aymon in Ghent in 1974. His religious work, De Judaskus, can be seen in the Sint-Aldegondis Church in Deurle. He is listed in the Latem artists: the fifth generation (A.F. Haelemeersch, 1998). (Piron)
