Mateze Jany

Jany Mateze is a Belgian artist, born in Brussels in 1938. She is a painter and draftsman. She trained in painting and watercolor art at the Academy in Brussels. From 1965 she became active in the international surrealist movement. She was also part of the Phases Movement, under the guidance of E. Jaguer in Paris. She works, among other things, in the lavis technique on paper and paints leather and animal skins. She finds her inspiration in Indian legends. She developed her own abstract pictorial language of signs, which exudes symbolism. Work by Jany Mateze was purchased by the French Community in 1968 and 1976/1978. (Piron)
